Tong’an Changcha (d. 961)The Mind Seal
I ask you:
What is the “mind seal?”
Who would ever dare
To give it or receive it?
The tranquility of countless eons
Is nothing other than this,
But call it the mind seal
And soon it’s just empty talk.
You should know that truth
Arises from the empty nature,
Like a lotus in the fire
Of a red-hot brazier.
Don’t just call out “no mind”
And say it’s the Dao:
Between the Dao and no-mind
There are still many barriers.
