The Sound of Heating Water for Tea
Faint singing: in a distant valley
Wind arises in the pines.
Full boiling: on the cold river water
The first spring rains fall.
In the daytime bustle of a city temple
The heart grows fuddled as with drink:
To hear the pure sound with unsullied mind
Late at night I boil water for tea.
