Mountain Retreat

Living deep in the mountains
I’ve grown fond of the
Solitary sound of the singing pines;
On days the wind does not blow,
How lonely it is!

This morning I came from the expanse of reality.
Tonight I’ll go into the expanse of reality.
I have the master’s oral instructions
For a friend when I’m sad.
I spread out great bliss as a seat.
I wear the natural warmth
Of the primordial for clothing.
I use great equanimity for a pillow.
I’m friendly with intrinsic self-awareness
As a close companion.
I eat pure meditative concentration for food.
I drink continuity for a drink.
The food is eaten in nonduality,
The taste experienced as great bliss.
The actualization of the three true buddha bodies is achieved.

The more you talk and think about it,
The further astray you wander from the truth.
Stop talking and thinking,
And there is nothing you will not be able to know.
To return to the root is to find the meaning,
But to pursue appearances is to miss the source.
At the moment of inner enlightenment
There is a going beyond appearance and emptiness.

In our practice, if we do not rely on the fundamental wisdom, prajna, it will be difficult to transcend life and death. But this wisdom is not to be sought outside. It is the original nature of Self-Mind, which is in itself perfect. It is said, “If one realizes the Mind, the great earth does not possess even a square inch of soil.” This is because our Mind is originally the bright wisdom that is in itself nothing.

When ice on the pond is three feet thick
And white snow stretches a thousand miles,
My heart will still be like the pine and cypress,
But your heart, what will it be?
